Before & After Examples

Victorian quarry
Deep mechanical cleaning followed by an impregnating seal and a satin finish giving the clients the floor they had always hoped it could be.

White ceramic
Special attention is given to the grout lines where most of the dirt has fallen into. Deep cleaned & sealed for easy maintenance.

Terracotta
The old seals were flaking in places and uneven. We stripped it back to its raw form seen in the before picture then sealed & protected it with a matte finish.
Stone Sealing, Tile Sealing & Stone Protection
Once the stone has reached it’s pristine condition the next part of our job is to keep it that way for as long as humanly possible
Many stones are porous, which means they absorb dirt and liquids into themselves which can then be very difficult to remove at home. A natural stone needs to breath however so what we are left with is a solution whereby particles of dirt and liquids are repelled at the surface yet the smaller oxygen atoms can still get through from below and keep your stone at it’s happy equilibrium.

Impregnating sealer - how it works
A glass container with a layer of stone which has been protected shown in yellow and a body of water in blue on top. The water cannot get through but the air blown from below can pass.
Natural pores in the stone have been filled with molecules that are in between the size of water molecules and air particles.
The water molecules are larger than the sealers molecules so cannot pass though them whereas the air particles are smaller in size so can pass through the stone.
The stone can 'breath' but is protected from spills.
In most cases the chosen sealant will leave a natural look with no alteration in appearance of the stone. Some stones, slates, granite ETC can be impregnated with a colour enhancing ‘wet look’ seal.
What this means is in the name. Simply that even when the stone is dry it will hold that deeper richer colour some stones often posses while wet. Particularly stunning on Chinese Slate or Black Limestones & Nero Marbles and Grey Slate.
Stone Dressing
On top of these seals or sometimes independently of them a dressing can be applied on top.
These can form a duality of functions, the first being a protective topical layer on the tile which can be much easier to clean and maintain, smoothing out some rough areas particularly prone to a dirt build up.
Secondly a range of sheens or shines can be offered, leaving your stone or tile with a satin, matte or gloss look.

Stone dressings
In the top picture you see an a rough drawing of an undressed stone with it's valleys gathering dirt deep down. Although we have the technology to get deep inside and clear these out normal household methods will struggle to reach the dirt deep in the troughs.
The 2nd picture shows the same imagined stone but this time with dressing applied. Now the dirt can't get as deep or as trapped in sharp angles. It is raised and along a smoother surface which means you will find much easier maintenance of your flooring.
